Blow, The: bio
Khaela Maricich is a pop musician, visual artist, and performer. She works in the cracks between pop music and performance art, bouncing between the genres to suck out the juicier parts of either world. Under the name, The Blow, she has released a number of music albums and toured nationally and internationally. She creates operatic performance pieces using the conversational style of popular music. She has toured the United States extensively performing her monologue based solo opera, "Blue Sky versus Night Sky", as well as giving traditional concerts of dance-party music with her group The Blow. Under the banner of The Blow Maricich has released five albums of music, crossing styles from folk to electronic radio style hits. Working in music venues as well as art spaces, her performances explore and exploit the conventions of each format. Her recent work interweaves elements of narrative performance art with traditional pop-show dynamics. She has presented at such venues as The Kitchen, Irving Plaza, The Warhol Museum, Henry Fonda Theater, Great American Music Hall, and Wexner Center. She lives and works in New York City.
